Geely Auto EU Data Act

Data Act

Connected vehicles generate a large amount of personal and technical data during use. Protecting this data and handling it responsibly is a top priority for us.

We always take legal requirements into account when processing customer data, including technical data from Geely Auto connected vehicles.

The following information applies to all Geely Auto vehicles sold in the EU, as they are all connected cars equipped with Geely Auto Connected Services. These include the Standard Connected Package with features such as remote monitoring via the mobile app and over-the-air updates, making every journey more convenient and innovative.

What is the Data Act

The Data Act (EU Regulation 2023/2854) is designed to give the EU users of connected products and related services, and in specific circumstances third parties in the EU, access to the data generated by connected products such as connected vehicles.

In the context of connected vehicles, Data Act facilitates access to product data generated by the use of a connected vehicle not only for its drivers, but also for third-party repairers and maintenance providers, and other parties authorised by the user of a connected vehicle. Connected vehicle owners can decide who has access to data generated by their use of such products, and the option to request that the data holder make available their data to third parties.

The data holder of the data collected by Geely Auto vehicles is Lotus Technology and Innovation Centre (LTIC) with its registered address at Magellan Allee 4, Raunheim, Hessen 65479, Germany

Overview of product data generated by Geely Auto Vehicles

Below you will find an overview of the type, format and estimated volume of product of product data that can be generated by Geely Auto vehicles.

A Geely Auto connected vehicle can generate the various types of data, depending on vehicle’s settings, optional equipment, and the status of mobile network coverage. The following categorization gives an overview of the type, format and estimated volume of product of product data which Geely Auto vehicles can generate:

  • ECU Signal Data: it comprises the signals sourced from various ECUs and sensors across the vehicle. These signals offer detailed insights into the vehicle’s operational state, performance metrics (mileage, speed, etc.), environmental conditions, and interactions with external systems.

  • Remote Vehicle Status (RVS) Data: it refers to the set of information about vehicle's current condition and state that can be accessed remotely. It describes the condition of the vehicle and its components when they are used (usage data), including geolocation, mileage, power consumption, status of lights, safety and alerts, etc.

  • OTA SW Upgrade Data: it refers to the information and processes related to remotely delivering, installing, and managing software updates for a vehicle’s electronic control units (ECUs), infotainment system, or other onboard software.

  • Vehicle Read-Out (DRO) Data: it refers to the information that is retrieved directly from the vehicle’s internal systems via onboard diagnostic interfaces.

  • Remote Vehicle Diagnostic Data: the information collected from a vehicle’s onboard systems (via telematics) to monitor, analyse, and diagnose the health and performance of the vehicle without physically connecting to it.

Available product data formats

The product data described above is available in the following formats:

  • VSW (Format for the data stored on the vehicle).

  • VSW, Json and XML (Format for data stored on the remote server).

Estimated volume of data generated by a Geely Auto Vehicle

Depending on usage (based on the selected use cases), between 1 – 1,5 GB per month. The volume of data can vary depending on individual vehicle features, parameters, and services used.

All Geely Auto vehicles are capable of generating product data continuously and in near real-time.

  • The data generated in the vehicle is not fully transmitted and stored on the server. In this regard, only the necessary volume of data is transmitted to our EU remote servers, for example for the provision of specific digital services.

  • The data transmission from the vehicle to our servers may be affected by the mobile network (ex. irregularities in mobile coverage might affect the real-time data transmission).

  • The period of data storage on our EU Cloud depends on the type of the data, and on the service. It can range from a minimum of 3 months to the lifetime of the connected vehicle plus two years.
